My name is Samuel Hammond. I consider myself to be a ‘Jack of all trades; master of none’ because I enjoy writing, drawing, painting, building things, and making videos. I went through life thinking I was a pretty normal kid until six months after my eighteenth birthday I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I’d previously had seven seizures in the space of four short months. This has led to a case of undiagnosed insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Instead of feeling bad for myself though, I’ve found it to be more rewarding to channel that energy into my writing, and my art.
I believe that saying what you feel can make all the difference, and being able to express yourself in a way that people can hear and appreciate what you’re trying to say is incredibly important, whether you choose to express yourself by writing, creating music, painting, or even dancing. That’s why I’m writing a series of poems and compiling them into a book. On the subject of poetry, I have also written some slam poetry, as I find this to be another wonderful source of expressing emotion. I feel that sometimes the reader may not get the full intent of feeling behind the poet’s words if they’re not vocally recited by the writer.
I’m also in the process of writing a fiction novel series, The Life and Adventures of Bobby Robinson’ . I'm part way through book one: Alienated.
Bobby Robinson lives in a small town in Australia, he’s fascinated with everything alien and extra-terrestrial and is a genius. As a result, he is mercilessly bullied by his peers at school. On the morning of his eighteenth birthday his life is changed forever when he finds out that he’s not all human, and that his father who he thought had abandoned him as an adolescent, was actually captured. He sets out on a journey across the galaxy to rescue his dad and make his family whole again.
I’m also writing various short stories and scripts. I studied Film and Television Production at JMC Academy for two years, and although I didn’t finish the course, I feel I’ve learned enough to further my ability to write scripts, which has always been a passion and goal of mine. Alienated actually started out as a concept script for one of my graduate pieces before I dropped out, and I loved the idea so much that I decided to turn it into a novel. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able write it as a script and produce it like I’d originally planned!
I also love to paint and draw. While I mostly draw different tattoo designs, which tend to focus on lyrics from songs that mean a lot to me, my painting centres more on the similarities and differences between the ocean and space. Growing up I always loved swimming in the ocean, I preferred it to the pool, and my sense of wonder has never faltered. As I grew older I realised that we know about the same about space as we know about what’s in the depths of our own oceans, and that’s always fascinated me, so when I paint I try to incorporate the two into one picture. My favourite so far, that I’m still working on, is an astronaut and mermaid intertwined in a tender embrace out in the depths of a starry galaxy.

I love the idea of the sea and space going hand in hand so much that I plan on writing and doing the art for a children’s book which will centre around pirates in space and a little earth boy who sneaks aboard, softening the hearts of the captain and his crew.
